Happy Music Review Friday! In this week’s review, we’ll delve into the world of Rain City Drive, a post-hardcore band. Formerly recognized as “Slaves,” the group underwent an official name change to Rain City Drive in October 2021. The decision came after their former lead singer departed due to health reasons, and the band also expressed solidarity with the BLM (Black Lives Matter) movement.
Interestingly, the members of Rain City Drive initially crossed paths in Manchester, England, affectionately known as Rain City. From this fortuitous meeting, Rain City Drive emerged and set out on their musical journey.
About two weeks ago, I stumbled upon this amazing band. While I was deep cleaning my house, I had I Prevail radio playing on Spotify in the background. Suddenly, three of their tracks, namely “Like I Do,” “Blood Runs Cold,” and “Talk to a Friend,” caught my attention so swiftly that I had to momentarily pause my cleaning to save these songs to my alternative playlists. From that point on, I found myself irresistibly captivated by their music.
Throughout an entire week, I listened to their songs on repeat, and even now, the desire to continue listening to them continues within me. The band’s music has truly left a profound impression, and I can’t get enough of their mesmerizing melodies.
Rain City Drive effortlessly navigates a musical spectrum that spans from vibrant, pop-infused club hits to intense bouts of post-hardcore power driven by captivating riffs. Striking the perfect balance, their sound possesses just the right amount of pop elements to appeal to pop music enthusiasts without deterring fans of heavier genres.
Recently, the band has been honing their focus on the pop side of their music, resulting in a dynamic sound that effortlessly resonates with both popheads and post-hardcore fans alike. Rain City Drive’s songs are packed with unforgettable hooks, leaving listeners enthralled by powerful melodies and an abundance of memorable riffs that can keep them hooked for days.

Their choruses are particularly noteworthy, skillfully crafted to be both memorable and irresistibly catchy, practically begging listeners to sing along. With Rain City Drive, you get the best of both worlds – a musical experience that unites diverse fans and leaves a lasting impression with its incredible blend of styles.
Rain City Drive has swiftly become one of my top favorite bands, and I firmly believe they are poised for continuous growth both professionally and musically. Across their two official albums, “To Better Days” and the self-titled “Rain City Drive,” I haven’t come across a single bad song. Their music has me completely enthralled, and their melodies linger in my mind long after I’ve listened to them.
Discovering that the band’s lead singer, Matt McAndrew, had the guidance of none other than Maroon 5’s Adam Levine during his time on The Voice, was not surprising at all. McAndrew’s voice is an absolute delight, gracing each song with smoothness and melodic charm. With such remarkable talent at the helm, it’s no wonder Rain City Drive’s sound is as captivating as it is. I can’t wait to witness their continued musical journey and future successes!
