šš 5-Star Review: Mac Meyers Needs Me by Helena Hunting šš

Coming September 10th, 2026!
Rating: āāāāā
I knewĀ I was going to love Mac Meyers Needs MeĀ the second Helena Hunting revealed the tropes, especially the virgin heroĀ trope.
And let me tell youā¦
MAC MEYERS DID NOT DISAPPOINT.Ā š
This was exactly the kind of college hockey romance I was hoping for: sweet, funny, awkward, spicy, and packed with enough mutual pining to make me want to shake both of these idiots and yell, āJUST KISS ALREADY!āĀ š
Best Friends Who Are Definitely Not Just Friends
Mac and Fee are the definition of best friends secretly pining for each other while literally EVERYONE ELSE KNOWS.
Their friendship was so sweet, and I absolutely loved watching that friendship slowly turn into something more.
There is something about friends-to-lovers romances that just hits differently when the friendship is actually believable, and Mac and Fee had that in spades. They genuinely enjoy each other. They know each other. They are comfortable together.
Which, of course, makes all that secretly wanting each other even more delicious.
Because everyone can see it.
Everyone.
Except, apparently, Mac and Fee.
Classic.
The Fake Dating Was EVERYTHING
Fee finally getting fed up with every girl on campus constantly bothering Mac and blurting out that he was her boyfriend?
RELATABLE.Ā š
And then Mac basically going, Okay, let's see where this goes,Ā and suggesting that they actually fake date?
I LOVED IT.
Watching these two awkwardly figure out how to act like a couple when they've secretly wanted each other for so long was adorable.
The problem with fake dating when you already have feelings for each other is that eventually you have to figure out which parts are actually fake.
And watching Mac and Fee navigate that was so much fun.
Then you add horny Cammie and Chase into the mix?
š
Poor Mac and Fee never stood a chance.
The Terror Crew Is Back!
I also lovedĀ seeing the Terror Crew again!
One of my favorite things about Helena Hunting's interconnected worlds is how characters continue popping up and how those connections make every new book feel like you're coming home to a much bigger universe.
Watching the Terror Crew immediately welcome Mac and the other Tilton U guys into the fold was so much fun.
There is something about seeing established characters interact with new ones that makes a series feel so much more alive, and I loved getting those moments here.
Give me all the hockey teams.
Give me all the cameos.
Give me all the chaotic friendships.
I am here for it.
And Then There's Mac...
Okay.
Mac may have been a virginā¦
BUT THAT MAN CAN TALK.Ā šš„
His dirty talk had me sitting there like:
Sir?!
Where exactly did you learn THAT?!Ā š
I was not expecting that level of confidence from him, especially considering some of his adorable awkwardness throughout the story.
He is CHATTTY, and I am absolutely here for it.
Honestly, sometimes the quiet, awkward ones are the ones you need to watch.
Mac proved that theory correct.
But Then Helena Had to Hurt My Feelings
As fun and adorable as this romance was, there were also moments that genuinely broke my heart.
Fee finding Mac's applications to other hockey programs?
š
My heart hurt for both of them.
These two had spent so much time secretly wanting each other, and then suddenly there was the possibility that they could lose what they had before they had even really gotten the chance to have it.
That was rough.
It added some much-needed emotional depth to the story because underneath all the fake dating, flirting, banter, and spice, there was a very real fear of change.
What happens when your best friend might leave?
What happens when the future you thought you were going to have suddenly looks completely different?
And what happens when you finally realize how much you stand to lose?
That part hit me right in the feelings.
Thankfully, We Got Toronto
Thankfully, Mac and Fee got their happy summer together in Toronto, and I absolutely loved seeing them get that time after everything they went through.
After all the uncertainty, it was so satisfying to watch them simply enjoy being together.
They had earned that happiness.
And honestly?
I wanted to live there with them.
Just give me a little Toronto summer, hockey, romance, and Mac Meyers being adorable and unexpectedly filthy.
I have no complaints.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Mac Meyers Needs MeĀ was exactly what I wanted it to be.
It was fun.
It was sweet.
It was awkward.
It was spicy.
And it was filled with two best friends who had absolutely no idea how obvious their feelings were to everyone around them.
Mac and Fee had amazing chemistry, but what made their romance work so well for me was the foundation of their friendship. Watching them finally figure out what everyone else already knew was incredibly satisfying.
And Mac?
I adore him.
He may be a virgin, but apparently he has been secretly preparing for this moment his entire life because that mouth. šš„
